The Military History Collection of the Jász Museum
The military history collection of the Jász Museum presents the military past of the Jászság primarily through human stories, collective memory, and visual sources rather than weapons. It does not aim to offer a comprehensive survey of military technology, but to show how war and military service shaped everyday lives in the 19th and 20th centuries. Objects and images bring the experiences of the front and the home front closer, preserving personal traces of loss, endurance, and remembrance.

The weapons holdings are limited but varied, including 18th–19th century firearms and hunting weapons, military rifles, and edged weapons such as bayonets and sidearms. These items serve mainly an illustrative purpose, highlighting characteristic equipment types from different periods.

A major highlight is the nationally significant cap-badge collection. Many First World War badges survive from Imperial and Royal units, the Royal Hungarian Honvéd, and allied formations; their iconography and inscriptions reflect not only identification but also belonging, front-line experience, and remembrance. Another key asset is the museum’s rich postcard and photograph collection, capturing authentic, personal moments of military life and making the human consequences of war tangible.
