A museum is never created in isolation. Its founding and continued existence are always the result of people’s decisions, gestures, and trust. A significant part of the Jász Museum’s collections consists of objects once entrusted to the institution by private individuals: family heirlooms, personal belongings, and carriers of individual memories. At the moment of donation, these objects cross the boundaries of private remembrance and become part of the shared memory of the community.

The Jászkakasok – Community Archaeology in the Jászság

The Jászkakasok are a community archaeology group affiliated with the Jász Museum, working with volunteers to research, protect, and interpret the archaeological heritage of the Jászság. The group was founded on the recognition that the region’s rich network of archaeological sites can be investigated and safeguarded effectively only through broader community cooperation.

The Fine Arts Collection of the Jász Museum

The fine arts collection of the Jász Museum is not extensive in size, yet it is remarkably diverse. Its chronological range spans from the 17th to the 20th century. The earliest works date to the early modern period and are mostly ecclesiastical in subject matter or portrait-like in character, offering insight into the religious and cultural world of the time.

The Natural History Collection of the Jász Museum
The natural history collection of the Jász Museum presents the Jászság’s natural past and biodiversity through geological, palaeontological, and zoological material. Although early taxidermied specimens once donated to the museum were lost over time, the collection today is defined by holdings of outstanding scientific value.

Throughout its history, the Jász Museum has been shaped by the communities and civil organisations connected to it. Whether their aim was the study of history or the preservation of Jász and Hungarian traditions, the museum has consistently provided them with a home, professional support, and public visibility. These partnerships are not occasional: communities contribute programmes, volunteer energy, and local knowledge, while the museum offers a reliable institutional framework, expertise, and continuity.

Industrial and Technology History Collection at the Jász Museum

The industrial and technology history collection of the Jász Museum preserves material evidence of the Jászság’s economy and everyday life in the 19th and 20th centuries. It focuses on two areas: local aspects of industrial development and the technical devices that transformed work, communication, and leisure in the 20th century.

The Military History Collection of the Jász Museum
The military history collection of the Jász Museum presents the military past of the Jászság primarily through human stories, collective memory, and visual sources rather than weapons. It does not aim to offer a comprehensive survey of military technology, but to show how war and military service shaped everyday lives in the 19th and 20th centuries. Objects and images bring the experiences of the front and the home front closer, preserving personal traces of loss, endurance, and remembrance.
